Reservoir communication is traditionally mapped by dissolving water tracers into the injecting water. Additional data can be extracted if the water tracer is combined with a partitioning tracer that will flow more slowly because of its affinity to both water and oil. The difference between arrival times of the water- and partitioning tracer is thus impacted by oil saturation within the reservoir volume where the injected water travels. This provides valuable information for water flooding efficiency and residual oil saturation.
